Gail has been making beads for over 6 years and has worked hard to perfect the art of Lampwork Bead-making. There are many people who create jewelry by purchasing the beads from others, but Gail and Lisa found the only way to guarantee their jewelry was unique and of the highest quality was to create the beads themselves. Lisa adds much creative talent to the process and designs many of the pieces. Their jewelry has been sold all over the US and as far away as England.
An ancient technique which originally employed oil lamps, modern lampwork (also called flamework) is formed at a torch. Gail uses Italian and American glass rods which, when molten, are similar to the consistency of warm honey. The hot glass is wound around a steel rod and then shaped and decorated. Large individual beads each take more than two hours to create, and some as many as four hours, depending on the detail and processes used.
Every bead is slowly kiln-annealed overnight to remove glass stress which ensures its durability. All lampwork beads in Gail's necklaces, bracelets and earrings are handmade by her.
